It was almost another great day for Team Isle of Man yesterday with Mark Christian in the fight for the medals in the Scratch Race in the Velodrome but just missed out by a whisker finishing fourth. Joe Kelly also performing fantastically well finishing fifth.
There were some more fantastic performances in the Swimming with National records and Personal Bests set again in the pool with Grant Halsall and Laura Kinley making the semi-finals.
Grant Halsall set a new national record in the 100m butterfly and then swam very close to that time in the semi final finishing 7th and 13th overall. Alex Bregazzi set a new personal best time in the heat.
Laura Kinley set a new national record in the 100m breaststroke and again swam close to it in the semi final.
Guy Davies swan a new national record by a second in the 50m breaststroke, Niamh Robison set a new personal best and island junior record in the 200m Individual Medley and Charlotte Atkinson went close to her personal best in the 100m freestyle.
The men’s relay team had an outstanding performance in the 200m freestyle relay smashing the national record by 16 seconds.
Athlete Harriet Pryke got Team IOM off to a start at Hampden Park in the 400m heats and although finished 6th in her heat was pleased to be running given she had a serious injury less than a month ago.
Jake Keeling and Tim Kneale were placed 9th and 12th in the Double Trap Clays.
Boxer Krystian Borucki had his first bout of the games against Nigerian E Apochi at the SECC and was unlucky for the referee to decide he was not fit to continue after receiving a standing count.
Today sees further action with the swimmers competing across the programme this morning in the pool at Tolcross.
Gymnastics have their first day of competition at the Hydro with the Team competition and individual qualification.
Shooting continues at Barry Buddon with Harvey Creavey and Ben Kelly in the 50m prone rifle, Rachel Glover and Lara Ward in the 50m ladies probe rifle. In the Olympic trap Ian parsons and Wilf Walton are due to shoot this morning.
Also Tosha the Isle of Man mascot goes in the Mascot race in the Athletes village at 1.30.
