Athletes

It was a great day for Team Isle of Man yesterday with some fantastic performances in the Swimming with National records tumbling in the pool.

Alex Bregazzi set a new Junior and Senior Record in the 200m freestyle heat improving the senior record by more than three seconds. That was his last day as a Junior as he turns 16 today.

Laura Kinley then swam a Personal Best in the 50m freestyle event making that her second PB in successive events. Guy Davies then smashed his own National record in the 100m Breaststroke heats by two seconds and finished sixth in a heat that included Scotland’s Ross Murdoch and Michael Jamieson.

Then the quartet of men in the 4 x 100 relay Alex, Guy, Grant Halsall and Tom Bielich then completely destroyed the National Record by over seven seconds in finishing 6th in their heat alongside Australia and South Africa.

Bernice McGreal our Lawn Bowler was up against some really strong opposition again at Kelvingrove in West Glasgow in the Scottish and Welsh bowlers and after a hard fight lost her two matches yesterday.

David Clague and James Bradley were placed 12th and 20th in the Skeet qualifying with 68 and 62 respectively out of 75.

Today sees the swimmers in action again with all except Guy competing across the programme this morning. Shooting continues at Barry Buddon with James Bradley and David Clague in the Skeet Second round plus Gemma Kermode and Rachel Glover in the 10m Air Rifle. Bernice McGreal has her final match in the Lawn Bowls.

Team IOM will also begin its cycling challenge in earnest in the Points Race qualifying with Pete Kennaugh, Mark Christian and Joe Kelly heading the Manx challenge.

Weather

The weather was sunny and very hot yesterday and after a cool start this morning is set to be dry but not as hot.

Snippets

The weather has been so hot that the local Tesco which is about 5 times as big as the island store has completely sold out of fans as the athletes try to get some relief from the heat in their rooms.

Neil Macgregor IOMCGA ambassador was in the village yesterday supporting the team.
