Athletes

The Swimming squad have set off for their final training session this morning ahead of their first competition day tomorrow. Confidence is high as training has gone well and the athletes are itching to get into the main event after all their preparations.

The cycling squad have set off on a training ride this morning joined by Laura Wasley who arrived in the village yesterday. The Athletics girls left early for their training session at the track as did Andy Nash for Trathlon. Lawn Bowls and Boxing have training sessions later as well.

Gymnastics will head off for their training session later this morning after some physio sessions.

Badminton after some intense training over the last few days have a rest day today so are off into Glasgow to see the sights.

The shooting squad are on their way into Glasgow from the satellite village at Carnoustie for the Opening Ceremony.

The draw for Boxing will take place tomorrow so we will find out who Kystian will face in his first bout.

Opening Ceremony

Everyone is looking forward to the opening ceremony tonight as this will be the start to the games. The Isle of Man is towards the end of the parade so will one of the last into the stadium so there will be some hanging around for the athletes.

Tim Kneale our double trap shooter and current World Record Holder will be carrying the flag for the Isle of Man which will be a tremendous honour for the Commonwealth Games Bronze medallist from Delhi 2010.

For those competing tomorrow there is an opportunity to march into the stadium with the team but to then leave and get back to the village so that they get to bed at a reasonable hour so they are rested for the morning.

Weather

The weather was very hot yesterday which meant we had to employ fans in the physio room all day. Today is set to be hot again but hopefully will cool a little for the opening ceremony.

Snippets

Lots of the team want to watch Kristian box on Friday so there should be a large Manx contingent in the arena.

The Isle of Man game pins are proving very popular such that some of the athletes have already swapped all their Manx cats for other nation’s pins and we get consistent visitors from other nations to the office looking for any spare pins.
