Shaun Kelly of Ramsey Cricket Club has been named as the ‘Standard Bank Player of the Month’ for June 2014. Shaun is only the second player to have won the award twice. The awards, which are in their fifth year, recognise consistent or particularly strong single performances during the month of judging.
The Isle of Man Cricket Association (IOMCA) draw up a list of nominees and these are then judged by the Awards’ panel which includes: Chris Till, of Standard Bank, Andy Dalrymple of IOM Newspapers and Rob Webber former Isle of Man Captain, and a member of the IOMCA Executive.
For June, Harry Rothwell, Max Stokoe, Ollie Webster, and Richard Jackson were also nominated for their performances and contributions. Chris Till, Head: Technical Banking at Standard Bank, said: ‘There were a number of strong nominations and each one should be congratulated on their achievements. After much debate the judging panel decided Shaun should win for his superb innings of 156 against Castletown in the Standard Bank Premiership and an 81 against Finch Hill in Standard Bank Forrester 1, plus an average of 53.4 across all competitions.’
During the season four awards are up for grabs, Chris Till added that they are an excellent way to encourage individual excellence in a team sport: ‘Whilst it is often a difficult decision for us to choose between some excellent performances, it is also a pleasure to see such good cricket being played in the island.’
Standard Bank is supporting the IOMCA for the 19th consecutive year, and currently sponsors the Standard Bank Premiership, the 20/20 leagues, the Knockout Challenge Trophy, the Blincoe Cup and the Six-a-side competition
