Update from the Island's Commonwealth team - Monday 21st July

by isleofman.com 21st July 2014

Athletes

The Swimming squad arrived yesterday afternoon and had a light training session last night.

The Badminton, Gymnastics, Boxing, Lawn Bowls, Shooting and Triathlon squads plus two of the track cyclists all had training sessions on Sunday and have sessions scheduled today.

Pete Kennaugh, Mark Christian and Elliot Baxter have all arrived safely in the village.

Facilities

All the athletes and Team Managers are reporting that training facilities are excellent and they are taking advantage of the fact that some teams are still arriving to use as much of the available training slots as possible. The swimmers had the whole training pool to themselves last night!

Weather

The weather was dry yesterday which was a relief after the rain on Saturday. Today is set fair with sunshine and quite warm.

Birthday

Today is General Team Manager Trevor Taubman’s birthday. The Isle of Man team gathered at breakfast to sing Happy Birthday to Trevor as the rest of the village watched.

Snippets

Lots of people are commenting on the Manx Cats which QEII school made which are on the grass in front of the Isle of Man housing block and the Celtic symbols on our kit.

We had a visitor from one of the Pacific nations who said she is a descendant of Fletcher Christian and knew all about his Manx Heritage.

Our two athletes Harriet and Reagan went into Glasgow after training yesterday and were inundated from members of the public for pictures.
