A Manx company played a leading role in a seminar about Space entrepreneurialism at the International Festival of Business, which is coming towards the end of its 50-day run in Liverpool.
ManSat Ltd took part in the ‘Perspectives on Space Enterprise’ panel, which was organised by the British Interplanetary Society.
For the event at The World Museum, ManSat CEO Chris Stott joined representatives from the European Space Agency, the UK Space Agency, the Satellite Catapult at Harwell, the Space Angels investors Network, and Manchester University.
The IFB is the largest business event of its kind in the world and got underway on June 2nd and runs until July 18th, attracting delegates from around the globe.
‘It was a fantastic platform for ManSat to speak about the satellite industry and the value and importance of the close relationship between the Isle of Man and the UK in the sector, and how space is a tool of inward investment and of great value to both economies,’ Chris explained.
‘It was quite fitting that the seminar took place in Liverpool, as that was where the BIS was founded in 1933. The room was packed for the seminar and the audience grilled us hard, with some astute and probing questioning.’
Event organiser Chris Atherton, a BIS member, said: ‘Aimed at entrepreneurs, industry and space enthusiasts, the event consisted of five talks and a panel session. We were extremely grateful to ManSat and Chris for joining us via a video link from the US, using, as Chris was pleased to tell us, a satellite developed in the UK. ManSat’s ongoing enthusiasm for the future of the Space industry, within the UK and the wider world, helped set the tone for the panel session and contributed to the event being widely regarded as a success.’
ManSat’s involvement in the IFB seminar comes just a month after the company had the honour of chairing two business panel discussions at the International Space University’s annual Space Studies Program in Canada, which also focused largely on the entrepreneurial spirit within the space industry.
ManSat has been a leading player and Manx brand leader in the satellite industry since its formation in 1998. The company works in partnership with the Isle of Man Government, its core function being to carry out satellite filing on behalf of the Isle of Man Communications Commission.
