The KHG Funds Senior Open – which this year has MBL Financial as the principal sponsor – raised over ?700 this weekend for charity. The competition is a three round tournament which teed off at Douglas Golf Course on July 3. The tournament is run on a four-ball format and split into two categories – Seniors (aged 50-64) and Super Seniors (65+) – with excellent prizes on offer across both age groups.
Gareth Jones, last year’s winner, said:
“It's great to be taking part again at the KHG Golf. The event is well organised and all the players enjoy the day and the gifts that they receive. At one point, I thought the umbrella may get used.”
At the end of the round the leaders of the various categories were as follows:
Men
S - George Ferguson with 44 points
Ss- Calvin Quayle with 39 points
Women
S- Lynda Jackson 37 points
SS- Pauline Merrill 38 points
As well as the competitive round of golf there was also an opportunity for players to take their chance at beating the course pro in a game of “nearest the pin”. The overall winner of this fun competition was Peter Crebbin
On the beat the pro hole seven players beat Douglas pro Mike Vipond and ?700 pounds will be donated to Hospice to reflect that. Everybody had a fantastic time out on the course and excitement is already growing for the next round of the KHG Funds Senior Open, with MBL Financial as the principle sponsor, which takes place at Rowany Golf Club on August 7.
Mary Doyle, PR and Marketing Manager for Hospice Isle of Man said
“Hospice is very grateful to KHG and MBL Financial for their continuing support of our charity.” “Without donations such as this we would struggle to provide ongoing support for the residents of the Isle of Man”. “I loved the fun idea of competing against the pro endeavouring the hit a golf ball further than him.” “We appreciate everyone’s efforts”. “The fact that seven people managed to achieve this and ?700 was raised in this way is very much appreciated.” “Thank you to all concerned.”
Stewart Quayle, Senior Business Development Manager at Creechurch, added
“The day started off warm but before long the Manx mist was upon us and looking to cause a few problems. Still, the players battled through and it lifted soon enough. It really was a case of four seasons in one day! We can’t wait for the next round where we hope to raise even more money for charity”
