He was pushed all the way by teenager Alex McAuley before registering a 1-up victory.
He will now meet Darryl Callister who was a 4&2 winner over Tom Gandy.
That semi-final will tee off at a quarter past five this afternoon.
The other semi-final will see Peter Glover meet Robert Noon at five o'clock.
Glover was a 2&1 winner over Jonathan Corke, while Noon defeated Stephen Skillicorn 4&3.
