Cooper scores more BSB Supersport points

by isleofman.com 18th June 2014

Wholesale changes to his PacedayZ.com R6 Yamaha after the short morning warm-up helped produce at great 9th place result for Ramsey’s Cal Cooper in the sixth round of the BSB Supersport championship at Snetterton on Sunday.

Cooper, 17, who had struggled all weekend to sort out a decent set-up, found the alterations worked a treat and he battled strongly throughout the hotly-contested televised 15-lap feature race won by Graham Gowland on Gary Johnson’s TT winning works Triumph.

Said a delighted Cal who is backed by Paul Dedman Performance of Ramsey and Manx Sport Aid: ‘I didn’t get a decent lap time during the short morning warm up so the team decided to risk some quite radical alterations and thankfully everything clicked. I wanted to improve my pace and I managed that, knocking a good lump of my previous best lap, although I suffered badly with arm pump in the latter stages of the race.

I had a good battle just behind the big boys and the form and my corner speed are improving and it’s a big thank you Craig Fitzpatrick and the mechanics.’

Cooper who also finished 12th in the 10-lap sprint race the previous afternoon, again earning valuable points, now lies 11th in the championship just a couple of points off the top six with rounds seven and eight next up in a week’s time at Knockhill in Scotland.

Just prior to TT we caught up with Cal and asked him a few questions.  See the interview here.
