Albany Lawn Tennis News

by isleofman.com 12th June 2014

Albany Mini Tennis members – be sure to be at the club for the hand-out of  the new Auxesia Ltd sponsored shirts. Very smart they look too. This will be at 1pm (the 12noon and 1pm groups) and 3pm (the 2 and 3pm groups) this coming Saturday 14 June. Orange and Green ball players can come at either time and be included in the photos. The club are extremely grateful to Auxesia Ltd and our club chairman, Stuart Colligon for supplying the sponsored shirts.

The club continually looks for sponsorship as running the facilities is not a cheap function – members fees can only cover so much. Buildings and ground maintenance doesn’t come cheap these days. However we have another new banner sponsor – A Cut Above – Unisex Hairdressers in Onchan, a company several of our members already recommend. If any member can provide me with a contact for a new company to approach please phone 861497 (498597) or e-mail albanytennispr@manx.net. The banners are displayed in the indoor court and are seen everyday throughout the year.

The club is again hosting the IOMLTA Senior Closed Championships commencing this Friday. The events are men’s/women’s singles and doubles and mixed doubles.

The event is sponsored by PokerStars and Finals Day is Sunday 22 June.

The club will again welcome the Children of Chernobyl for tennis coaching and lunch on Tuesday 22 July – we need four or five helpers on court so if you are available that day between 10.30am and 12.30pm or can help with serving lunch and clearing up please give your name to Ian Watson (on court) and/or Jan Gaskill (lunch).

Albany will be staging a round of the British Heart Foundation annual mixed doubles on Monday 4 August. Please support this event and give your name to the Referee, Ian Watson – email ianwatsonpts@manx.net.

Other dates for your diary are – Friday 7 November A Night at the Races to be confirmed and the Annual Sponsors lunch on Wednesday 12 November. More details nearer the time.

Finally congratulations to the four Albany juniors who represented the Isle of Man in the LTA 10 & under Inter-County tournament in Sheffield.  Well done to Roch Mirski, Jayden Go, Sam Skelcher-Maxwell and Jack Christian, who also is a member at Ramsey. They also played at Thongsbridge T C in a Match Play event and took the first four places.
