Junior Achievement has appointed Sally Drinkwater as corporate and community fundraiser

Manx-born Sally, 28, a former Castle Rushen High School student now living in Port Erin holds a BMus in music from the University of Huddersfield and a MA in music management from the University of Sheffield.

She began her working life in London, first as a business assistant with BBC Proms then moved to the Southbank Centre to work in the artistic programming and learning and participation teams. A move to Opera North in Leeds saw her working on the national music education programme In Harmony, inspired by the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra and Venezuelan El Sistema, an initiative that uses the power of music making to transform the lives of young people and their surrounding communities.

Sally said: ‘The career opportunities I’ve had in England have given me a passion for working with young people and making sure everyone has the chance to reach their potential, which is very much the aim of Junior Achievement. Junior Achievement is a dynamic, innovative charity and I’m looking forward to working with the team on how we might expand our reach and engage with even more young people in the future.’

Junior Achievement’s chief executive Sue Cook said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome Sally to the team. Her obvious enthusiasm for inspiring others, experience of youth education programmes and her project management skills will be of great value at a time when Junior Achievement is looking at new ways of connecting with the local community, building relationships with the public and private sector and, crucially, helping prepare young people for the increasingly competitive world of work.’

After returning to the island earlier this year, Sally is looking forward to working back here and is keen to hear from both business and community supporters on any new ideas, partnerships and fundraising initiatives they might like to share. You can contact Sally at sally.drinkwater@jaiom.im or call 666266.
