Students in final of Youth Rocketry Challenge

by isleofman.com 30th May 2014
Teams of students from Castle Rushen High School in Castletown and Ballakermeen High School in Douglas have won places in the final of the UK Aerospace Youth Rocketry Challenge or UKAYRoc.
The competition is organised by trade organisation ADS Group and sees teams of students from schools and colleges across the UK design, build and launch rockets to exacting specifications.
The aim is to encourage more young people to consider careers in the aerospace industry.
The winners of the UK national final will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Paris to visit Disneyland Paris and the Airbus Toulouse site. They will also go forward to represent their country at the International Rocketry Challenge against the US and French winning teams at the Farnborough International Airshow 2014. The international final will take place on Futures Day at the Airshow.
Education and Children Minister, Tim Crookall says the challenge is a brilliant opportunity for The Isle of Man’s best science talent to stretch their imaginations and meet like-minded young people from all over the UK.
He says he's keeping his fingers crossed for the students when they take part in the UK final on the 25th June.
