Who will be the “I Love Manx Chef of the Year” 2014?

The search is on to find a talented chef with a passion for cooking and for using fresh, seasonal, local Manx produce. This annual competition is hosted by the I Love Manx campaign and this year is sponsored by Robinsons.
 
Shortlisted entrants will cook in front of an enthusiastic audience at Robinsons, Ballapaddag, on Saturday 23rd August at 10 am whilst finalists will compete in the Manx Food Theatre at the Isle of Man Food & Drink Festival on Saturday 20th or  Sunday 21st September at 3 pm. 
 
Competition details and entry forms can be obtained from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, Thie Slieau Whallian, Foxdale Road, St Johns, Isle of Man, telephone 685856  or downloaded from www.gov.im/foodanddrink.  Recipe details are required and ingredients should be Manx produced as far as possible.
 
The closing date for entries is 30th June, 2014.  The first prize is ?500 cash for the winner plus media coverage to the value of ?500 for the winner and their place of work. 
 
Janna Horsthuis from sponsors, Robinsons, said: ”Robinsons are delighted to sponsor  this competition  which celebrates the culinary skills of cooks on the Island plus the quality of local Manx produce.  We are committed to supporting growers and producers and are passionate about promoting the excellent produce that is available on the Island.  Many local chefs purchase from our stores and we would encourage them all to compete for this prestegious award”.
 
Last year’s winner, Joan Mowatt from Tanrogan Seafood Restaurant, Douglas commented: “the competition  provides an excellent opportunity for chefs to display their talents and gain valuable publicity for themselves and their place of work.  We really benefitted from the coverage of  the competition and I would really recommend chefs to consider taking part in this competition – it’s challenging but rewarding”.
 
Previous winners have included – (2010) John Dixon from Harbour Lights, Ramsey, (2011) Mohamed Hugue from Spice of India, Ramsey, (2012) Robert Hooper from L’Experience, Douglas and (2013) Joan Mowatt from Tanrogan Seafood Restaurant, Douglas.
