Two red cards played a pivotal part in Tuesday night’s BCS Hospital Cup semi-finals.
In the end, St George’s and Old Boys will meet in Sunday’s final after ultimately comfortable victories left St Mary’s and St John’s rueing what might have been.
The Geordies are just one win away from completing Manx football’s Grand Slam after they saw off St Mary’s 3-0 at Glencrtuchery Road.
The dismissal of St Mary’s player Liam Doyle just before the half-hour left the visitors in trouble and St George’s took advantage.
Ciaran McNulty slotted home from the penalty spot just five minutes later with second half-goals from Calum Morrissey and an own goal securing the victory.
It was a similar story at Mullen-e-Cloie where the game was goalless at half-time.
Old Boys though took control after the break, helped by St John’s player Jonny Holland being sent-off.
Old Boys eventually ran out 5-1 winners thanks to Darren Hudgeon, Gary Quirk, Robbie Ward (two) and an own goal.
Ayre United are back in the top flight.
They secured the runners-up spot in JCK Division Two after chasers Colby drew 1-1 at Marown.
The southerners needed to win but, after Jordan Primrose-Smith’s strike midway through the second half, Stuart Morris headed a 73rd minute equaliser to dent Colby’s hopes and secure their own Paul Henry Gold Cup place spot at the expense of Douglas Royal.
