Corlett Bolton is celebrating a new addition to its team of Advocates following the success of Penny Rogerson being called to the Manx Bar in April 2014.
Penny, 24, was educated at QEII High School in Peel and graduated from Northumbria School of Law. Before joining Corlett Bolton as a Trainee Advocate in 2012, Penny spent some time working in Canada, including an unusual role which saw her assisting investors in setting up gold mines in North and South America. Penny sat the Manx Bar exams in May 2013 and passed all 4 exams first time.
Sally Bolton, Director of Corlett Bolton, said: “I am really proud of what Penny has achieved. The Manx Bar are hard exams, with many trainees having to go through the process more than once. The fact that Penny passed first time just highlights the time and dedication she put into her studies and is a testament to the devotion she will put into her work now she is qualified. I am pleased to have been Penny’s principal for the last two years, it’s been a real pleasure to have seen her confidence and abilities develop.”
For Island Advocates, hard work throughout university and an intense two-year period as a Trainee Advocate culminates in the sitting of the Manx Bar exams. This allows them to practise law independently, enabling them to represent clients in court on their own, in addition to other vital legal duties.
Thanking her colleagues, Penny said: ”I am truly grateful for all of the support and assistance that everyone at Corlett Bolton has given me over the last two years. The extra encouragement and help that Sally has provided has been invaluable and I feel very lucky to be working with such a lovely group of people.”
Penny will continue her work with Corlett Bolton offering legal assistance on a large range of matters including wills, enduring powers of attorney, mental health receiverships, probates and administrations, child and family matters, landlord and tenant disputes, conveyancing, debt recovery and other contractual disputes.
