New headteacher for Dhoon Primary School

by isleofman.com 7th May 2014

The Department of Education and Children is pleased to announce that Maxim Kelly has been appointed headteacher of Dhoon Primary School with effect from September.

Mr Kelly has been a deputy headteacher at Scoill yn Jubilee since its formation in September 2012.

He will replace David Jenkins, who has led the school for three years and who is leaving to head Bunscoill Rhumsaa.

Mr Kelly graduated from the University of Liverpool with an honours degree in education and qualified teacher status in 2003. After a term working at Anagh Coar Primary School, he took up his first substantive teaching post at Andreas Primary School.

He was appointed to the senior management team at Victoria Road Primary School in 2007, leaving to take up his first deputy headship at Braddan Primary School in 2009.

Mr Kelly moved to Murray's Road Junior School as deputy headteacher in 2011 and in the following year he became one of two deputy heads at both Murray’s Road and Ballaquayle Infants’ School, working as part of the leadership team that was tasked with amalgamating the schools under the new name of Scoill yn Jubilee.

Mr Kelly said: ‘I am delighted and excited at the prospect of assuming the headship of Dhoon School and I’m looking forward to getting to know the pupils, parents, staff and school community over the coming months.

‘I am, of course, sad to be leaving my present school, where it has been my privilege to work with absolutely fantastic children and families alongside a committed and talented staff. I am proud of the role I’ve played in helping amalgamate Murray’s Road and Ballaquayle to form Scoill yn Jubilee.’
Mr Kelly is father to Stanley and Maisy, who attend Michael Primary School. Outside of work, he is studying towards a masters degree in educational leadership and management, which he hopes to complete this summer.

Dhoon School has 102 pupils on the register.
