Suggestions for prison site use to be considered

by isleofman.com 19th April 2014
The Department of Infrastructure says it's received a number of suggestions in response to its public consultation on the future use of the former Victoria Road prison site.
The department says it would encourage purely residential redevelopment of the site, which may incorporate affordable housing, sheltered accommodation or daycare facilities.
The six-week public consultation, which closed on Friday last week, attracted a range of opinions on how best to utilise the government-owned plot.
A number of respondents were in favour of residential accommodation, while others put forward ideas for community facilities, including a church.
The responses will now be considered ahead of the department’s publication of official guidelines on how the site should be redeveloped.
Castletown MHK Richard Ronan is member with responsibility for Planning and Building Control.
He's thanking those who made submissions, saying careful consideration will be given to them when deciding what to recommend for this prominent site in Douglas.
He says the DoI's intention is to encourage development that will best serve the needs of the local community and also reflect government’s national priorities.
