Lighthouse visit

by isleofman.com 13th April 2014

There was a rare opportunity to climb to the top of Maughold Lighthouse today.

The ticket-only event was organised by Maughold Social Club in conjunction with the Northern Lighthouse board to mark the 100th anniversary of the structure. Parties of eight people at a time were able to see inside the lighthouse and climb out to the balcony at the top in perfect weather conditions.

Young and old took advantage of the chance to climb to the top of the tower, including the island's Lieutenant Governor. An exhibition on the lighthouse's history was also staged at the church hall.
