Clampdown on rogue claims for farm payments

A loophole's being closed in a grant scheme for Island farmers, designed to encourage them to look after the Manx countryside.
An amendment passed in Tynwald last week means farmers who deliberately neglect or damage their land will no longer receive payments from the Countryside Care Scheme.
The scheme was introduced five years ago and it emerged some farmers had gone out of their way to knock out hedges or destroy valuable habitats, then claimed grants to put things right.
Environment minister Phil Gawne says that cannot happen again:
