by isleofman.com 9th April 2014
The Treasury department is not failing to collect overdue National Insurance contributions and Tax.
Minister Eddie Teare made that assertion in Tynwald this week.
He said current data suggested during the past financial year the assessor of income tax had collected more than ?195 million of income tax and at least ?166 million of NI contributions.
Mr Teare said the approach to collection was "robust", ranging from agreeing a payment arrangement to, in more serious cases, arresting the debtors assets.
He revealed that in the past tax year 147 companies were prosecuted for non-payment, and 205 warrants had been issued in relation to outstanding income tax.
The amounts involved were ?692,085 and ?1,461,830 respectively.
