Isle of Man school teacher Andrew Wilkinson is running Sunday’s London Marathon in aid of the Manx Blind Welfare Society.
Andrew said he had chosen the charity, which looks after the interests of blind and visually impaired people on the Isle of Man, as its headquarters, Corrin Court, is next door to his school, St Ninian’s Lower School.

Sunday’s run will be Andrew’s fifth full marathon.

He said: ‘I’m really looking forward to getting under way on Sunday. Although I’ve been training hard, I expect it to be a real challenge, but a really rewarding one, both in terms of personal accomplishment as well as raising money for MBWS.
‘The charity provides really important services for free, relying entirely on the goodwill of the public to ensure the welfare of more than 600 people with serious sight loss in the Island is properly looked after.

‘I hope the money I raise doing the London Marathon will help, as well as encouraging more people to help raise funds for MBWS.’

Volunteers Coordinator and Events Organiser Debbie Kenyon added: ‘We are delighted Andrew has kindly chosen to raise money for us while running the London Marathon, and we wish him all the best for what promises to be an incredible experience.
‘It is a real boost to all staff and volunteers when people put such great effort into raising money for us, as well as vitally important to ensuring we can continue to provide our free services.’
