The Department of Economic Development has announced that the Minimum Wage Committee is shortly to invite evidence from interested parties concerning changes to the rate of the Minimum Wage in the Isle of Man.
 
Minister for Economic Development John Shimmin MHK said:
 
‘The Minimum Wage represents an important part of Government’s aim to protect the vulnerable and make work pay. I hope that the Minimum Wage Committee will receive a great many responses from interested parties.
 
‘The Minimum Wage Act provides that the Minimum Wage is reviewed “from time to time”, although this is usually on an annual basis.  The Minimum Wage Committee is now seeking information and opinions from interested parties, who could either be individuals earning the minimum wage or slightly above, employers who pay the minimum wage, or other interested groups, for example the Chamber of Commerce and the trade unions.’
 
The UK Government recently announced that the UK rate was increasing to ?6.50, which is 10p per hour above the Manx single hourly rate of ?6.40 that was introduced on 1st October 2013.
