Appleby Isle of Man has welcomed Anne Freeman as a Senior Associate (Solicitor, England & Wales) in its Corporate and Commercial Team.
Anne, who has a full range of commercial, practical and legal experience, came to pursue a career in law following an earlier government and NGO strategic communications management consulting career based in North America. Following completion of a law degree in England in 1997, Anne trained with the London offices of LeBoeuf, Lamb Greene & McRae before qualifying into its banking and finance team in 2001.
This was followed by a move to Norton Rose in 2002, where she participated in the asset finance practice of the firm from its London and then Paris offices. In 2007 Anne relocated to Bermuda to take up a corporate and banking position with Conyers Dill & Pearman.

Anne has provided legal advice on corporate borrowing and security, share sales and mergers and acquisitions in addition to restructuring, insolvency and corporate reorganisation involving both European and North American principals. Her extensive experience includes the application of purpose trust structures using Bermuda purpose trusts and exempted companies in the creation of bankruptcy remote vehicles to support the financing and operation of moveable assets and supporting directors in meeting legislative, compliance and fiduciary requirements in regards to offshore structures and their interaction with onshore corporate entities.
When practising onshore Anne’s particular experience was asset finance based with a specialisation in the representation of European lending syndicates and the ECAs in the aviation markets of the Russian Federation and the Peoples’ Republic of China.

During my career I have worked in both on and offshore environments and am looking forward to bringing that knowledge and experience to our clients, as well as enhancing my own skills by developing my understanding of the Island’s legal and financial systems.’
Anne is co-author of the Bermuda chapter of Sweet and Maxwell’s Air Finance, Registration, Security and Enforcement 2011 and 2012.
