The iGaming Asia Congress, Asia’s official conference and expo for interactive sports betting, gambling and lotteries promised to provide an unbeatable opportunity for over 250 attendees, and it certainly delivered. Conference organisers noted that Macau now sees seven times the betting volume of all of Las Vegas casinos, and that Macau will grow another 30% in the coming two years. Macau continues to be the centre of the gaming world with reported gambling revenues of $45 billion for 2013.
Boston Limited’s Bruce Elliott attended the three day conference at the Grand Hyatt Macau between 4 – 6 March. The line up of speakers included a number of high profile gaming operators and business leaders, including representatives from Boston Limited, Manx Telecom and the Isle of Man Government Department of Economic Development.
Bruce Elliott spoke on two panels: Mobile Gaming and Sports Betting, and Financing/Venture Capital in the iGaming Sector. “It was another excellent show for the Isle of Man,” Mr Elliott remarked. “Following on so quickly from the successes at London’s ICE conference in February, we are seeing excellent results from this trip and the Isle of Man's reputation continues to grow. In total, the Island had over a dozen representatives make the journey to Macau. This kind of presence is well received in the region."
Also speaking at the Congress from the Isle of Man was Stuart Paul, Data Centres Director at Manx Telecom, who spoke about Big Data and the hosting advantages of the Isle of Man. Peter Greenhill, CEO of eGaming Development at the Department of Economic Development, also presented on the competitiveness of the Isle of Man as a gaming jurisdiction. Peter noted: “This was a key event in our eGaming calendar especially with the imminent arrival of the UK Place of Consumption tax.”
In the coming months, Boston Limited looks forward to welcoming a number of prospective Asian clients to the Isle of Man as result of the conference. We look forward to introducing them to the wider Isle of Man gaming eco-system, while assisting them in establishing and creating jobs within the Island.
