New Infrastructure Minister pays tribute to outgoing Minister

by isleofman.com 11th March 2014
Minister Laurence Skelly, MHK has paid tribute today to outgoing Minister David Cretney following his first week as political lead for Infrastructure.   “I would like to thank David for the important work which he has delivered during his time at the DoI. Under his watchful eye, the Department has delivered a significant number of successful regeneration schemes around the Island on behalf of the Chief Minister’s Working Group.  Major infrastructure projects such as the refurbishment of Peel Road, Douglas and Douglas Promenade have commenced.  He has also delivered major business change projects within the Department itself resulting in the reduction of staff costs and a streamlining of senior management roles including the reduction of two Director posts from Harbours and Highways.  I am now committed to carrying on this work to further reduce costs across the Department.

David has indicated that he will not be standing in the 2016 General Election, a decision which cannot have been easy for him.  As one of the longest standing politicians, he has devoted 31 years of his life to politics.   I know that he was sad to leave this Department, but he is back leading the Motorsports Group at Economic Development as part of his new role as Member with responsibility for Tourism, a role he was born for and will no doubt continue his work to promote the Isle of Man as an international sporting destination.”
