Barclays Wealth and Investment Management has announced details of an event to mark International Women’s Day.
Guest speakers have been lined up to address an invitation-only audience at a special breakfast, being held in Douglas on Friday, March 7. International Women's Day, a global celebration of the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future, falls on the following day, Saturday, March 8.
Colette Meenan, Head of Local Markets at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management in the Isle of Man, has been involved in organising the event.
She said: ‘We have special guest speakers attending who will talk through their careers and the challenges they have faced and overcome during their journey to success.
‘We will also present key differences in female attitudes towards risk taking, financial decision-making and strategies for success.’
The guest speakers will be Faye Moffett, a partner in legal firm Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC; Mary Doyle, PR and Marketing Manager for Hospice Isle of Man and Marco Leonetti, a highly successful hair stylist and owner of Utopia and Purite salons.
After qualifying as an Isle of Man Advocate in 1997, Faye spent several years working for leading law firms in Edinburgh before returning to the Island in 2004 to join Dickinson Cruickshank, a predecessor firm of Appleby. In 2006 she became partner and earlier this year was appointed local group head of the corporate and commercial practice, which is the largest on the Island with more than 23 experienced and qualified lawyers including four partners. Her expertise lies in banking and asset finance transactions, including aircraft and ship finance matters, with particular experience in advising on cross border security and insolvency issues. She is also a qualified solicitor of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, British Virgin Islands Circuit and an English solicitor.
Mary has been with Hospice for more than five years, generating nearly ?3.5 million each year; a significant achievement in the current economic climate. She started her career path in a library and has previously worked as a Trust Manager in Jersey and editorial assistant for Isle of Man Newspapers. Mary will talk about her career and her background, which includes being born a ‘true cockney’ within the sounds of the Bow Bells, living in Dublin and her swimming - she is the only Isle of Man based-swimming tutor, training swimming teachers to teach, and is currently swimming the equivalent distance of the TT course in the Western Swimming Pool, Peel, which will be a total of 2,400 lengths. With a busy job swimming is a true form of relaxation!
Marco, who is celebrating 35 years in business in 2014, opened his first salon at the age of 18 and has enjoyed success throughout his career, first with Avant Garde Salon and now with Utopia Salon. His career has taken him all over the world, presenting at trade shows and competing in competitions in Finland, Italy and the UK. A Technical Director for It&ly Hair cosmetics, Marco particularly enjoys nurturing new hairdressing talent.
He explained: ‘I am at a point now in my career where the most pleasure I get is from seeing my young trainees evolve into truly exceptional stylists.’
International Women’s Day was first held more than 100 years ago and is today celebrated in countries around the globe. The theme for 2014 is ‘Inspiring Change’.
