Douglas will find itself in the grip of carnival fever over the coming months as Manx Radio prepares to spread the fun bug for an event which was last held 15 years ago.

“We want to help make Saturday, July 19 a day for Douglas to well and truly remember,” said John Marsom, business director of Manx Radio which has beaten off the competition and been chosen as Media Partner by carnival organisers  Douglas Borough Council and Douglas Development Corporation.

He added: “We are very proud as the national broadcaster to have been given the role and I think it has some poignancy as the station’s first broadcast was from Douglas 50 years ago.  We are determined Carnival Day 2014 leaves behind good memories and something of a lasting legacy from our Golden Jubilee year.  It will be the icing on our celebration cake.”

Mr Marsom said the carnival would undoubtedly bring in spectators from all corners of the island and offer a “fabulous afternoon” of activities for families and young adults, including a vibrant parade of floats along the Prom.  An ‘after party’ in the evening, aimed at adults and organised by Manx Radio, will see North Quay transformed into a vivacious scene of fun, live music and entertainers. 

 “In the months and weeks before the event there will be a pot pourri of broadcast messages to publicise the day.  Make no mistake, Manx Radio will be helping to make this a spectacular event for not just Douglas but the whole island.”
