Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man has announced the appointment of Geoff Karran MBE as Patron following the retirement of Jack and Pat Corrin as President and Patron respectively who have given such huge commitment and direction since the charity’s inception 25 years ago.
Mr Karran is a very well known and respected figure on the Island having retired as a senior partner with leading law firm Dickinson Cruickshank & Co where ironically he was articled to Mr Corrin! In addition to his successful professional career, Mr Karran is well known in sporting circles mainly as a cricketer who represented the Isle of Man as well as in many other capacities. He is more recently accredited with his role as chairman of Isle of Man Sport, culminating in accepting the chairmanship of the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011 which is widely acclaimed as the highest profile global sporting event ever held on the Island outside of the TT. Mr Karran’s work in the charity field particularly relating to youngsters with learning difficulties is well known and he was instrumental in Project 21 which provides excellent and much needed premises and support in this area.
Chairman of Cruse Les Watson commented “We could not have wished for a better person than Geoff to become our Patron in succession to Jack and Pat Corrin. He has taken a real interest in the work of Cruse and made himself available to help and advise the charity on many occasions. We are looking forward to his wise counsel and guidance in the future”.
