Isle of Man Post Office says it delivered 1200 emergency communication letters to addresses at risk from flooding across the Island first thing today (3 January).
The Post Office has a long-standing arrangement with the Department of Infrastructure to distribute information to residents and businesses in the event of an emergency.
Alert letters advising those at risk in Douglas, Ramsey and Castletown of the dangers presented by the predicted flood, what they should do and the support available, were delivered before 8.30am.
Managing Director of Mails, Isle of Man Post Office Malcolm MacPherson said: "We pulled pulled out all the stops by printing and distributing the letters at short notice in time for people to take appropriate action."
Iain Young, Emergency Planning Officer for the govenrment said they were delighted the Post Office was able to help at such short notice.
He added: "We have a good relationship with them through our joint membership of the Emergency Planning Resilience Forum."
