A Douglas businessmen’s club has broken its own record for supporting good causes by giving away an amazing ?71K so far over the last 18 months – and Christmas is still coming.
The latest charities to benefit from donations by Douglas Rotary Club are the Zulu Missions of the Catholic Archdiocese of Durban, South Africa, which help alleviate poverty and provide health, justice and education services.
Speaking at a well attended lunch, His Eminence Cardinal Wilfrid Napier acknowledged the Club’s fund-raising activities and said he was delighted that members had chosen to support a project very close to his heart. His eloquent message of achieving change through personal example was received with great enthusiasm.
Groups and charities which have benefited from direct giving by the Rotary Club of Douglas and its Charitable Trust over the last 18 months include: Cancer Service User Forum; Guide Dogs for the Blind; Hospice; Housing Matters IOM; Philippines Appeal; Rainwater Harvesting; Sailing for the Disabled; Salvation Army; Thanks for Life; Manx Swallows; Zambia Medical & Orphan Fund; Victim Support; Manx Cancer Help; Council of Voluntary Organisations; Anti-Cancer; Adorn Care Ltd; Groudle Glen Railway; Hyperbaric Chamber; IOM Yacht Club; Isle of Man Swimming Association; Manx Blind Welfare; Manx Breast Cancer Support Group; Manx DECAF; Manx Education Foundation; Manx Housing Trust; Manx Wheelers Cycling Club; Manx Workshop for the Disabled; Men in Sheds; MSPCA.
