Manx Radio has won the Nations and Regions Award for Station of the Year in the North West in recognition of its “huge passion and excellence across the board”.
The highly prestigious award, given by the respected Radio Academy, celebrates programming that caters for the needs of a local audience, recognising the passion, commitment and outstanding content of UK local radio.
“Winning this award is a great way of going into 2014 which is when we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the launch of Manx Radio,” said Marc Tyley, the station’s controller for programming and content. “It is the fourth time we have won it and I am absolutely thrilled and very proud.”
The award sees Manx Radio going forward as a contender in the competition for Station of the Year (under 1 million category) , with the winner announced at the 2014 Radio Academy Awards in May next year.
In their citation the judges described Manx Radio as a station which works hard to deliver a broad and comprehensive service to its audience and added: “Proudly local, but with a world view, there’s a real depth to Manx Radio and a huge passion and dedication to deliver for their audience.”
Paul Robinson, chief executive office of the Radio Academy, said the awards celebrated the very best in local and regional radio.
