Island’s marketers to hear ‘Isle of Man. Where You Can’ case study

by isleofman.com 8th November 2013
The Isle of Man’s marketing community will have an opportunity to learn of the background and implementation of the ‘Isle of Man. Where You Can’ initiative on Wednesday 13 November at the Villa Marina, Douglas.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) lunchtime briefing is being given by Fellow of the Institute Heather Smallwood, the former Head of Marketing for the Department of Economic Development.

The programme, which launched in May 2012, promotes the ‘can do’ attitude of the Isle of Man as a world class international business centre with a single unified message in collaboration with industry and other stakeholders.

The event has been organised by the Isle of Man Region of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.  Chair of the local committee, Daren Ward, said:

“The Isle of Man Government’s ‘Where You Can’ initiative represents a real step-change in the way the Island promotes itself.  It integrates a simple but powerful core message to take to our target audiences and to attract business across a diverse array of sectors in a coordinated effort to further grow and diversify our economy.

“I look forward to seeing our Members at the event and would encourage the local business community to attend as this promises to be a highly interesting presentation.”

Heather Smallwood said:

“I look forward to presenting this case study to the Island’s marketing community.  As the Head of Marketing for the Department of Economic Development at that time I was tasked with delivering this important project as part of wholesale change in the way the Island promoted itself.  The implementation of the ‘Where You Can’ initiative offered a single visual identity for the promotion of the Isle of Man which now forms the basis of a public/private sector approach to economic development and inward investment.”

The event takes place on 13 November at the Broadway Cinema at the Villa Marina.  Registration commences at 11:45 with a buffet lunch.  The presentation starts at 12:15 and should finish no later than 13:00.  All are welcome to attend, with costs of ?8.50 for members of the CIM and ?12.50 for non-members.  Those wishing to attend this are asked to register online by visiting www.cim.co.uk/isleofman or by emailing cimevents@cim.co.uk or telephoning 01628 427340.
