Barclays presents more than ?2,000 to Project 21 Charity

Barclays Wealth and Investment Management has presented more than ?2,000 to Isle of Man charity Project 21.

Funds raised during a ‘Snail Race’ evening earlier this year were boosted by a ?2,250 donation from Barclays, bringing the final total to more than ?5,500. The money was recently presented to representatives of Project 21 by Barclays Wealth and Investment Management employees.

During the evening, Barclays’ employees assisted in a number of areas, including a charity raffle, as guests were treated to an evening of snail racing and entertainment.

Project 21 Secretary Di O’Brian said: “The snail race was great fun and has helped raise valuable funds for Project 21. Project 21 relies entirely on the generosity of the public, which allows us to continue our essential work on the Isle of Man.”

“It was brilliant to see employees from Barclays supporting the event and charity by giving up their time.”

Project 21, established in 2000, brought together five Manx charities - Manx Mencap, Down’s Syndrome Isle of Man, Autism in Mann, Manx Gateway and the Isle of Man Special Olympics – with a shared vision. Representatives from each charity worked together to create a headquarters and social centre for people with a learning disability in the Isle of Man.

Centre 21 opened in 2007 and has been used by many charities to extend the range of activities they offer members, from drama and music to different sports.

Chair of the Barclays Isle of Man Charity Committee Stuart Nelson added: “I am delighted that we have been able to boost Project 21’s funds by supporting the snail race.”

“Project 21 plays a vital role in our local community and I know these funds will continue to help fund their important work for people with learning disabilities in the Isle of Man.”
