Independent travel website teaches global brands a lesson in visibility

An independent travel website, owned by a Manx company, is leading the way in teaching some of the world’s global travel brands about internet presence.

www.justtheflight.co.uk, part of the British Isles’ largest offshore travel group, the Online Regional Travel Group, and a sister company to Richmond Travel and Mann Link Travel in the Isle of Man, has been ranked 11th highest in a search of the most visible airline sites within Google rankings, beating the likes of British Airways, travelzoo.com and kayak.co.uk. Established global brands appearing before it in the list included skyscanner.net, lastminute.com and expedia.co.uk.

Just The Flight is an online travel agent which compares prices from more than 150 airlines flying to destinations across the world, providing clients with the best value and a hassle-free, bespoke travel itinerary. It also employs a unique and organic approach to search engine optimisation (SEO), which has resulted in its remarkable success.

Whereas the majority of companies who finished higher in Google’s list rely on spending millions of pounds every year on SEO combined with more traditional marketing methods, Just The Flight’s focus is on creating unique, humorous and thought-provoking content, designed to engage clients whilst they are booking through the website and help to make their user-experience a memorable one. Those companies who achieved high natural search rankings were amongst the lowest spenders on pay-per-click (PPC) advertising.

The company’s parent, the Online Regional Travel Group, is now very much seen as an IT specialist within the industry thanks to the way it has pioneered travel technology, delivering what the market demands before anyone else.

Just the Flight’s Director of Internet, Mark Byart, commented: “Google rewards websites which create unique and compelling content – this naturally pushes them up the visibility rankings. Our strategy is simply to do just that – solve our clients’ problems by presenting them with a wide choice of affordable and flexible travel options, and at the same time adding in some extras designed to maximise their enjoyment of using our site. The visits to our Travel Blog and ‘Fun Stuff’ pages alone indicate how popular these have become.

“Our minimal spend on PPC shows just how well a website can perform in visibility rankings if it has a good SEO strategy and works hard to grow its brand profile through production of unique content. It is fantastic to see that an independent company can out-perform some of the biggest names in travel.”
