President of Tynwald welcomes Lord Raglan

by isleofman.com 9th October 2013

The President of Tynwald, the Hon Clare Christian, has welcomed Lord Raglan to the Legislative Buildings.

Lord Raglan’s grandfather, the third Baron, served as the Island’s Lieutenant Governor from 1902 to 1918 and was a pivotal figure in the origins of the TT, securing legislation in 1904 to permit the closure of Manx public roads to allow car racing trials to be held.

Mrs Christian said: ‘I was delighted to welcome Lord Raglan and to show him around the Chambers where his grandfather had presided. We discussed some of the issues which were pertinent at the time and during our conversation he recounted with great pride how the Manx national anthem “O Land of our Birth” had been dedicated to his grandmother in 1907.’
