Chinese business delegation to visit Isle of Man

by isleofman.com 27th September 2013

The Isle of Man will further strengthen its political and economic relations with China next week when it plays host to a group of influential Chinese businessmen.

The delegation is headed by His Excellency Liu Xiaoming, the Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom, who enjoyed a successful visit to the Island in April.

Representatives from Chinese shipping, mining, financial services and telecoms industries will arrive in the Island on Friday 4 October, with golf being one of the focal points of their three-day programme.

The Chinese Ambassador’s team will play two of the Island’s highly regarded courses over the weekend, as they take on a team captained by Lieutenant Governor Adam Wood and one comprising members of the local business community.

As well as helping to build relationships in a friendly environment, the visit will support efforts to raise awareness of the Isle of Man in the Far East and highlight our strengths and business propositions to the powerful Chinese economy.

The Island is continuing to promote its ability to work in partnership with China, specifically through import/export solutions, capital market listings and wealth management services.

An Isle of Man trade mission travelled to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou earlier this year and further visits are planned in future to follow up a number of business opportunities.

Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK said: ‘I am sure the Ambassador and his party will enjoy the Manx hospitality and get to experience why the Island is such a popular destination for golf enthusiasts. There is great potential for the Isle of Man and China to develop mutually beneficial trade and investment links and I look forward to a further strengthening of the relationship between our two nations.’
