Nedbank Private Wealth is lighting the way

by isleofman.com 26th September 2013
The installation of a new energy efficient lighting system at the offices of Nedbank Private Wealth has proved a great success, both environmentally as well as financially for the company.

Nedbank Private Wealth engaged MHA Lighting to install the new low energy lighting system into their head office within St Marys Court, Hill Street, Douglas. The specific choice of fixture and colour can significantly enhance the working environment and is also known to aid concentration – contributing to a greater feeling of wellbeing amongst staff.  For this new initiative, MHA lighting recently won the Best Practice (Private Sector) Award at the Isle of Man Energy Awards 2013.

The new low-energy LED Luminaires scheme has significantly reduced the bank’s lighting energy costs and Co2 emissions with an estimated total annual saving of ?9,000 and 37 tonnes of Co2 emissions expected.

“To be able to benefit both the environment and the company’s bottom line by switching our lighting system has made this positive change all the more attractive. This initiative offered us the perfect solution to deliver our energy saving and cost reduction objectives, and is demonstrating that with the right innovation it is possible to improve light levels, whilst reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint.” stated Greg Horton, Managing Director, Nedbank Private Wealth.

Nedbank Private Wealth is committed to practicing, encouraging and enabling environmental sustainability throughout its organisation, and set up its sustainability forum over a year ago to serve as a platform to raise awareness of sustainability among all staff right across their organisation.

Nedbank Private Wealth internationally also actively encourages staff to manage their own impact by focusing on environmental issues, providing an understanding of how each individual can reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable living. The staff have already successfully targeted paper, electricity and water usage within the business and also recycle print and photocopier toners, old mobile phones, cartridges and used stamps (for local charity funds) within all their international offices and have introduced recycling of all glass, aluminium, plastic, ring-pulls and vegetable matter, even their teabags. Nedbank Private Wealth has offices internationally, with branches in Isle of Man, Jersey, London UAE & South Africa and trust companies based in Jersey & Guernsey. The group’s aim is to have sustainability at the forefront of employee’s minds and the upgrading of the lighting at the Isle of Man office certainly helps to make Nedbank Private Wealth a ‘greener’ organisation.
