Following on from a successful first year, Appleby and Junior Achievement have teamed up once again to launch the Appleby Academy 2013.
Aimed at year 12 students the Appleby Academy is designed to give young people on the Isle of Man real life experience of working with an international organisation. With the help of an Appleby mentor, students will present their ideas on how they would meet a particular business challenge for the chance to win a paid summer placement at Appleby.
Sean Dowling, Managing Partner of Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC commented: “Junior Achievement’s commitment to students on the Isle of Man is fantastic and we are pleased to be working with them once again this year.”
He continued, “The Appleby Academy was an overwhelming success in its first year and we hope that 2013 can attract even more students to take advantage of this opportunity. Last year’s winner, Rebecca Bannister will be joining the firm in July from St Ninian’s High School for an eight week work placement and we are looking forward to working with her to put her business solution into practice.”
Sue Cook, Chief Executive of Junior Achievement Isle of Man also commented on the launch, “In the current economic climate investment in education and work experience is more important than ever before. The Appleby Academy is designed to engage students in real life business challenges to equip them with the skills they will need when entering the workplace or applying for university.” She continued, “We are grateful to Appleby for providing students with this opportunity and for the time and financial commitment they have made to Junior Achievement for another year.”
