The Island's post office network can for the first time process licence applications for lorries, taxis and foreign vehicles.

In the past, licensing of those categories of vehicle has only been available at the Sea Terminal in Douglas.

With 24 post offices across the Island, the new options are expected to be welcomed by haulage companies with vehicles over 24 tons and those with two or more axles, as well as taxi drivers.

Licensing manager at Isle of Man Post Office Stephen Webster said the extra service will give customers greater choice and flexibility to licence their vehicles at a location convenient to them instead of being restricted to one place in the capital.

Director of Highways at the Department of Infrastructure Richard Pearson said the move means the department can concentrate on policy and legislation, delivering online services and medical fitness to drive and foreign exchange driving licenses.
