Great Results for Edgewater Associates Peel Golf Club Competitions

by isleofman.com 17th June 2013
The Edgewater Associates sponsored golf competitions enjoyed remarkable success at Peel Golf Club over the past two weeks as 188 keen sportsmen and women competed under calm skies and over sun-drenched greens for some of the club’s oldest trophies.

In the ladies competition, team-mates Christina Skelly and Amanda Woodward took home first place in the Millennium Shield on 30th May while in the men’s competition, Ray Hughes triumphed in the Ballagarraghyn Trophy the following weekend under perfect conditions on Saturday 8th June.

Players were also given the opportunity to donate to the sponsor’s chosen charity, Manx Cancer Help, in order to enter the ‘nearest the pin’ competition on the 133 yard, par 3 10th, with all proceeds matched by competition sponsors, Edgewater Associates. Kevin Middleton just snook inside Island champion Paul Lowey’s  effort in the men’s, while Dot Simpson beat off competition in the ladies’ round. Both competitions were then brought to a ceremonial close with refreshments followed by a prize presentation in Peel Golf Club’s main lounge.

Sandra Cardwell, Director at Edgewater Associates, commented on the day’s events: “This is the second year that Edgewater Associates has been given the opportunity to sponsor these competitions and what a year it has been. Conditions have been perfect throughout while the atmosphere amongst competitors and Edgewater staff has been fantastic. The nearest the pin competitions were a huge success and generated vital funds for a charity that is very close to our hearts and it has been an absolute pleasure to witness the skill and generosity of the Peel members  in such a beautiful setting.”

Peel Golf Club’s Guy Smith also commented: “The Ballagarraghyn Trophy dates back to 1901 when it was presented to the club by then President T. G. Mylchreest and is a very important competition at Peel Golf Club. We are very grateful to Edgewater Associates for generously sponsoring this competition along with the Ladies competition – the Millennium Shield. We would also like to thank members who came along and supported the club and the sponsors in what was a great day and night!”
