Do you need an extra pair of hands?

The search is on for Island firms in need of an extra pair of hands, willing to take-on an undergraduate this summer.

The government-backed STEP scheme places selected Manx students with local firms to complete a specific project over the summer holidays.

Competition for around 30 places is strong this year, with applicants outstripping places threefold.

Previous STEP recruits have carried out projects ranging from database creation to writing a human resources manual and carrying out customer surveys.

Some students have later been offered a job by their host companies, others use the experience as a springboard to work elsewhere.

Fifteen Island firms have so far offered places on this year's STEP - but another 20 are still wanted.

STEP co-ordinator at the Department of Economic Development, Ian Moncreiff-Scott, says the students can really make a positive contribution:
