Applications open for Manx Executive Challenge 2014

by isleofman.com 31st May 2013

The Isle of Man Branch of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has announced that applications are now being invited for the 2014 Manx Executive Challenge.

Selected participants work in teams of six to address an issue which is topical, relevant and of importance to the Isle of Man’s economy or social infrastructure. Past projects have required teams to come up with practical, cost-effective solutions to tackle diverse issues such as getting the tourism industry to work more collaboratively, promoting Isle of Man produce, provision of childcare and youth unemployment.

Unlike the previous two Challenges, 2014 will see the teams being given a fully scoped out project to tackle at the beginning of the process instead of having to come up with their own.

Chair of CMI Isle of Man branch, Craig Allen, commented:

‘The Manx Executive Challenge provides an excellent personal development opportunity and its format is unique within the British Isles. It enables participants to test their leadership and management skills in a totally different context and environment.

‘Many past participants have felt that completing the Challenge has given them an advantage in their career development. I would urge those people who feel that they have the potential to work at senior management level to apply. Similarly I would ask Isle of Man employers to encourage their employees to look at how the Challenge can help with their personal development.

‘Since then it has gathered momentum and we are currently working with our colleagues in the CMI North West UK Region introduce a pilot of the Executive Challenge into the area.’
The Manx Executive Challenge is open to those people who ideally have management or supervisory experience within the private, public and third sectors. Formal qualifications are not necessarily required.

Anyone interested in the Manx Executive Challenge should visit www.mec.im to find out more and to download an application form.
