Tynwald Committee engages radio consultant John Myers

The Select Committee of Tynwald on Public Service Broadcasting has engaged John Myers of Myers Media to undertake a review of Manx Radio. Mr Myers will visit the Island in July. The outcome of his work will be incorporated into the Committee’s report to Tynwald.

John Myers is a radio executive, consultant and presenter. He produced a report on the future of local radio in the UK (“The Myers Report”) which was published by the UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport in April 2009. In 2011, he reviewed efficiencies at BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, 1Xtra and 6Music. His most recent report for BBC Management was on the operation of BBC Local Radio, published in February 2012.

John Myers’ review of Manx Radio takes place in the context of the Tynwald resolution of 11th December 2012 –

That Tynwald receives the Treasury Report on Public Broadcasting Subvention of July 2012 [GD 0034/12]; and –

(a)        reaffirms its commitment to public service broadcasting in the Isle of Man;
(b)        recognizes Manx Radio as the Isle of Man’s national broadcaster; and
(c)        appoints a Select Committee of three Members with powers to take written and oral evidence under Sections 3 and 4 of the Tynwald Proceedings Act 1876, as amended, to examine the matter of the policy, delivery, cost and scope of Public Service Broadcasting; and report with recommendations.

The Members of the Select Committee of Tynwald on Public Service Broadcasting are Mr Richard Ronan MHK (Chair), Mr Zac Hall MHK and the Hon Steve Rodan SHK.
