A corporate golf day in aid of Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man has raised around ?7000.
Sponsored by Celton Manx for the second successive year the event was held on Wednesday May 1st at Peel Golf Club where guests included His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor Adam Wood and two well-known faces from West Ham United Football Club, assistant manager Neil McDonald and first team coach Ian Hendon.
As operator of the global online sports book SBOBET Celton Manx has sponsored West Ham for four years.
After 18 holes played in almost uninterrupted sunshine players returned to the clubhouse for lunch and a prize presentation led by Cruse’s Mike Henthorn who referred to Celton Manx as ‘tremendous supporters’ of the charity.
The prizes awarded, Neil McDonald and Ian Hendon generously agreed to a question-and-answer session that revealed the science-based complexities required to maintain players in peak condition; relationships – cordial and otherwise - between manager Sam Allardyce and some of his opposite numbers; and the club’s eagerly anticipated relocation to its new 54,000-capacity home in London’s Olympic Stadium.
Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said: ‘We consider it crucial to make corporate social responsibility a cornerstone of what we, as an Isle of Man business do. We therefore had no hesitation in sponsoring, for the second year in succession, this golf day in aid of Cruse Bereavement Care.
‘We would also like to think that our long-standing association with West Ham, that saw Neil and Ian take time out of their busy schedule to travel to the Island and take part, may have helped lend visibility to this charity that works tirelessly to remove the stigma surrounding death and, with consummate professionalism and sensitivity, supports the bereaved of all ages to help them deal with loss.’
In 2013 Cruse in the Isle of Man is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Chairman Les Watson said: ‘We would like to express our delight in our second year of sponsorship of this event by Celton Manx. It will contribute greatly to the work we do for bereaved adults, children and young people.’
Manager Amanda Cafearo added: ‘Sponsorship from Celton Manx means so much as it maximises the funds we can raise from the event. Our volunteers are continuously trained and, later this year, we will be recruiting more, so the money raised will be used towards the associated costs.’
