Equiom team to attempt 3 Peaks challenge in aid of Hospice Isle of Man

by isleofman.com 9th May 2013

A team of seven staff from the Equiom Group will attempt the UK’s premier Mountain Challenge on June 7th to raise funds for Hospice Isle of Man.

The 3 Peaks is an arduous challenge from start to finish taking in the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis (Scotland) 1344m, Scafell Pike (England) 978m and Snowdon (Wales) 1085m – all are iconic mountains steeped in history. The total distance the team will walk is approximately 42km with a total ascent of 9,800 feet – all within 24 hours.

Equiom’s Managing Director Sheila Dean, herself a team member, commented:

“We are delighted to be in a position to support Hospice Isle of Man in their drive to raise funds through a recipe book project that was brought to our attention by the Hospice’s Northern Committee. Through the funds we will raise the Northern Committee will receive the capital they require for the first print run of the book – allowing Hospice to keep their costs to a minimum.”

Sheila continued: “The team train together regularly, whatever the weather - including during the island’s recent heavy snowfall - and we are well on track with our training schedule which has taken us all over the Manx countryside. Our training for the event has been meticulously planned by my colleague and team mate Andrew Wilson and we can only wish for good conditions on the day, but given the variety of weather we have experienced on our training days so far, I’m sure we will be well prepared for whatever mother nature has planned for us!”

PR and Marketing Manager for Hospice Mary Doyle added: “I would like to thank Equiom, in particular the brave, intrepid climbers for all their efforts for our charity. This initiative sounds very exciting and challenging and I have no doubt will raise much valued and needed funds for Hospice. I wish the team the best of luck and look forward to hearing how they get on.”

Sheila and Andrew will be joined in the challenge by their colleagues from Equiom - Larry Kearns, Fiona Noon, Emma Corlett, Robert Cattle and Michael McHale.
