Offical opening to mark store makeover

A long-established Island grocery business is showing-off its new look store in Douglas this weekend.

In a 'significant' investment, family-run firm Robinson's has completed a major refit of its shop on Prospect Terrace in Douglas, replacing displays and counters in an enlarged layout.

The company says modern refrigeration and lighting installations will cut energy bills substantially and reduce its carbon footprint by 35 per cent.

The business began with an outdoor stall on Douglas quay 130 years ago and has since been passed down through four generations, currently run by brothers John, Tony, Peter and Michael Horsthuis.

Their mother Joan will cut the ribbon at an official opening ceremony on Saturday (4 May) followed by an open day with tastings, demonstrations and free samples.

Director John Horsthuis says the business has responded to the changing demands of its customers while store manager David Clark invites the public to come and see the new look store:
