Barclays Wealth and Investment Management has presented a cheque for ?6,470 to Breakthrough Breast Cancer following the recent Barclays ‘Women Mean Business’ Gala dinner held at the Villa Marina, Douglas, in association with the Institute of Directors, Chamber of Commerce and Association of Corporate Service Providers.

The Head of Barclays’ Female Client Group, Barbara-Ann King, visited the Island as a guest speaker for the event. The Female Client Group was set up by Barbara-Ann in 2010 to support women from all backgrounds and their families not only in managing personal wealth, but also in lifestyle and business needs. It offers a full programme including seminars and bespoke events focused on education, support and connecting women. As part of its work, the Female Client Group has produced a series of white papers, the most recent of which, entitled ‘Unlocking the Female Economy: The Path to Entrepreneurial Success’ was released in January 2013.

The second guest speaker at the event was Island-based Svetlana Cameron, a Russian born artist who has enjoyed local and international success. Barclays purchased one Svetlana’s works for a raffle on the evening and matched the total raised ?for?.

Co-Chair of the Barclays Charity Committee Caroline Cornish said: “Breakthrough Breast Cancer is a fantastic charity to have raised money for at the ‘Women Mean Business’ Gala dinner. The evening celebrated Barclays’ ongoing support of women in business and it has been fitting to donate money to Breakthrough Breast Cancer, which supports one of the UK’s most common forms of cancer.”

Chairman of Breakthrough Breast Cancer Angie Aire: “Breakthrough Breast Cancer is a charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research and awareness and this support is crucial to our ongoing operation. We would like to thank Barclays Wealth and Investment Management for choosing Breakthrough Breast Cancer to benefit from this charity raffle.”

In addition to supporting Breakthrough Breast Cancer through the ‘Women Mean Business’ event, the Barclays offices at Eagle Court, Douglas currently host “Pinkie” - a pink vending machine, branded with “Breakthrough Beast Cancer” livery provided by Mannvend. All profits raised from “Pinkie” are donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Tracey Leahy, Managing Director of MannVend Ltd. said “Pinkie was originally launched in May 2012 and has been rotated monthly to different sites including Barclays, B&Q and public sites such as the airport. All profits raised from Pinkie are being donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer, MannVend’s charity of the year. The original aim was to raise ?2,300 in one year, thanks to people’s generous donations, such as the staff at Barclays we have exceeded our original target.”
