An 80-strong team of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management employees recently provided a welcome silver lining to the wintry storm clouds as they successfully beat their 200,000 step ‘one day step challenge’ in a bid to raise over ?3,000 for Manx Cancer Help through sponsorships and donations.
Barclays employees completed 253,880 steps travelling up and down the Douglas Eagle Court office stairs, supporting Roger Davies in the final stages of his personal ‘Million Step Challenge’ to raise ?25,000 for Manx Cancer Help by completing 1,000,000 between May 2012 and March 2013, this is equivalent to climbing Mount Everest 25 times in the space of a year.
Manx Cancer Help was founded in 1983, and aims to complement medical treatments given with a range of therapies and to help the whole person, being aware of physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Manx Cancer Help also provide support for the friends and families of patients.
Barclays employee Bal Jandu, one of the event organisers said: “When we, the Barclays People Forum, thought up the challenge earlier this year it was planned to have just one team involved but there has been so much interest and support for Roger that we were delighted to welcome a broad range of Barclays employees from across the business to participate.
“The challenge is just one part of the Barclays citizenship initiative which aims to raise money for charities within local communities. All in all it was a fantastic day, people were so receptive and enthusiastic about the event, and even the awful weather didn’t dampen spirits. I’d also like to thank Robinsons and MannVend for providing fruit and water to help encourage our teams in their efforts.”
