STEP Isle of Man to discuss UK Budget developments

Recent developments regarding the UK Budget are set to be discussed at a STEP Isle of Man presentation next week.

The professional body has invited local tax experts Greg Jones and Kevin Loundes from KPMG to headline the event, which will highlight recent UK Budget developments.  The special presentation will be staged at the Claremont Hotel in Douglas on Wednesday 24th April. Booking in and refreshments will be available from 12.30pm and the hour-long presentation will start at 1pm.

On 20 March the UK Chancellor announced his Budget for the coming year. The key announcements covered a reduction in the corporation tax rate to 20 per cent from April 2015, a ?2,000 employment allowance from April 2014, a new capital gains tax relief on the sale of a controlling interest in a business from 2014, income tax and National Insurance relief on shares for employee shareholders from 1 September 2013, an increase in the new above the line research and development tax credit to 10 per cent from 1 April 2013 and the removal of Stamp Duty on shares traded in growth markets such as AIM and ISDX Growth Market from April 2014.

Greg Jones is a barrister by qualification and has degrees in law from the University of Manchester and London (LSE). He has been a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation since 1987.  After working for accountancy firms in London, Greg came to the Isle of Man to join KPMG in 1990, becoming a partner in 1993. He specialises in international tax matters, especially treaty planning, and currently overseeing the Gibraltar and Isle of Man tax practice’s diverse and wide-ranging client base, which is particularly strong in the fields of banking/insurance/funds and property-based private client work. A frequent contributor to both the local and professional press he is a regular speaker at tax-related seminars and offshore conferences.

Kevin Loundes is a manager within the tax department of KPMG. Kevin joined KPMG in 2007, having previously worked within audit for Deloitte in the Isle of Man for six years. Kevin is involved in advising a wide range of clients on UK and Isle of Man taxation matters. In particular Kevin specialises in providing international tax advisory services to clients including, high net worth individuals, trust companies and corporate clients.
