Middle East telecoms giant Batelco Group has today (3 April) completed its acquisition of all Cable and Wireless operations in the Isle of Man and Channel Islands.

Bahrain-based Batelco serves 7.8 million customers across six markets in the Middle East where it achieved growth of 17 per cent in its mobile customer base last year.

Eddie Saints, Chief Executive of Sure Operations Channel Islands and Isle of Man has welcomed the successful completion of the sale, adding he's confident Batelco will invest 'significantly' in the local mobile and broadband infrastructure.

Mr Saints described Batelco as 'a very dynamic company with a clear vision of a highly connected future, which will be crucial to the future success of the Isle of Man.'

Describing today as 'an important milestone', Batelco Group CEO Mohamed Al Khalifa said the company's main focus is to ensure leadership teams in all its operating companies 'remain committed to delivering advanced services in an increasingly digital world' with the right level of customer care.
